Metal detecting during the dog days of summer can be a miserable experience to say the least. It’s hot, buggy, and the seasonal plant growth can make it very difficult to thoroughly metal detect in some areas. A couple of years ago, I decided to give shallow water metal detecting a try. I figured that it would be a great way to metal detect and cool off at the same time!
I already owned a waterproof metal detector, the Garrett AT Pro, so I put on a bathing suit, grabbed my gear, and headed out to the nearest lake. I learned very quickly that beach and shallow water metal detecting is absolutely impossible without a sand scoop! It was incredibly frustrating to dig a hole in the sand and then watch the hole fill back up with sand, water, or both within mere seconds. Needless to say; my first shallow water metal detecting experience ended fairly quickly!
RTG Kick it Aluminum Beach Sand Scoop for Wet and Dry Metal Detecting
I went back home and immediately started to search the Internet for a sand scoop that I could use for metal detecting on beaches and in shallow water. I came across the RTG Kick it sand scoop and noticed that it had received a ton of positive reviews. I went ahead and placed my order and my new sand scoop arrived a few days later.
RTG Kick it sand scoop product description
The RTG Kick it is made out of aluminum and weighs under 2 pounds. The handle is 36 inches long and is curved like a cane. An aluminum bracket has been welded to the handle and bucket for added strength. The bucket of the sand scoop has a 5 inch diameter and is 7 inches long. The holes in the bucket have a diameter of ⅝ inches which is large enough to allow sand and small stones to sift through the bucket, but small enough so that you won’t lose valuable finds.
Using the RTG Kick it sand scoop for beach and shallow water metal detecting
The RTG Kick it is lightweight and easy to use. Simply grab onto the curved handle of the sand scoop with one hand, and “kick” the bucket into the ground with your foot.
The design of the RTG Kick it makes using the scand scoop almost effortless. I’ve used this scand scoop on beaches, inland lakes, as well as in the ocean and have been very pleased with its overall performance. I have found rings, coins, watches, and jewelry metal detecting in ankle deep to chest deep water and the RTG Kick it has made target recovery a breeze.
