Minelab has just released software update 3.0 for the Minelab Equinox. According to Minelab’s website, the Equinox software update 3.0 adds a new single frequency of 4 kHz. Minelab describes the new 4 kHz single frequency as being ideal for detecting large deep targets. Minelab’s website makes specific mention that this frequency is optimized for detecting (these targets) in conditions that are found in Asia. Additionally, the software upgrade includes stability and performance enhancements.
If you’re a newer Equinox user you should be aware that if you look up the word “vague” in the dictionary, that a picture of the Minelab logo will probably appear next to the definition. Minelab does a terrible job of documenting their software updates, basically leaving it up to the end user to figure out what an update does. I haven’t had a ton of time out in the field with the Equinox software update 3.0 but I can tell you that it appears to be stable. I can also confirm that the 4 kHz single frequency is available on the Minelab Equinox 600.
There was some speculation that the new 4 kHz single frequency option would not be available on the Equinox 600. This is probably rooted in the fact that one of the key differences between the Equinox 800 and the Equinox 600 is that both 20 kHz and 40 kHz are not selectable as single frequencies on the Equinox 600. As a point of clarification, it would appear as if 4 kHz is only available to be used as a single frequency, it does not get added to the Multi-IQ set of frequencies.
